Social Media Club Expanding Global Board of Directors. Apply Now!
When we launched Social Media Club in March of 2006, I could name less than 10 companies that had a corporate blog.
Only 1 of them was producing video on a regulr basis.
None of them had a Community Manager on staff.
Twitter was a fun way to connect with 15 of your closest 'techie' friends and Facebook was only available to college students.
Those early days feel like a lifetime ago, but it has been a great road to travel and I am thrilled to see the 'social media' industry maturing and evolving for the betterment of all.
I believe Social Media Club was, and still is to this date, a driving force in the worldwide adoption of social media and would like to take this opportunity to thank the 1000s of volunteers around the globe as well as the web pioneers and good friends like Kat Mandelstein, Serena Ehrlich, Jeremiah Owyang, Brian Solis, Andy Sernovitz, Chris Brogan, David Meerman Scott, Lee Odden, Howard Greenstein, and more who worked tirelessly to help others 'get it' (social media that is) over the past six years.
We have come a long way, but there is still much more to do. Our organization now has over 350 chapters and we are expanding into new markets like the Middle East, Asia Pacific and Canada. With the continued chapter growth and expanding needs of our community, the Social Media Club board of directors has voted to add nine seats to bring additional expertise, capabilities and perspectives to the current board.
The board of directors will begin planning for the next twelve months and will be building teams to focus on driving new membership / offering additional member benefits, improving chapter structure and support as well as developing new educational programming (from 101 to advanced).
This is a working board, not an advisory one, and we are looking for candidates to help fill the following roles:
- Corporate Secretary / Board Project Manager
- Programming Director
- Membership Director
- Finance Administrator
- Interim Executive Director
The board of director seats will be available to dues paying members in good standing, and we are accepting applications now through June 8th!! The current board of directors will review all submissions and will announce our new directors around July 15th!

 Previous non-profit and/or BOD experience is not required, but passion and a fire in your belly to help Social Media Club flouish over the next twelve months is a must. Also, we ask that our board members invest 3-5 hours a week to the .org, depending on your role on the board. If you are not able to do so, we have other ways for you to participate in SMC.
