Do you manage social media accounts for your company, for clients, or for yourself?
If so, you need to give HootSuite a try. It is a “social media management system for businesses and organizations to collaboratively execute campaigns across multiple social networks from one secure, web-based dashboard,” says their website.
I recently became a HootSuite Certified Professional.
Here are my top three HootSuite features:
Filter by Geolocation
I have found this particularly helpful when I need to track Twitter mentions of an event in a particular geographic area.
Click on +Add Stream
Choose a Twitter profile and click on Search
Enter your search query, e.g. @Google
If you want to use your current geolocation, click the icon directly next to the text box.
This will add what is referred to as a geocode. The last number displayed is the radius. You can choose how big or how small you want the radius to be and choose between km (kilometers) or mi (miles).
Click Add Stream & see the results come in.
If you want to choose a different geolocation, pull up Google Maps and type in the address.
Once loaded, right click on the location and then click “What’s here?”
Copy the geocode that is now displayed where you typed the address and paste it after your search query. Add a comma at the end of the geocode and choose your radius. For instance: @Google geocode:37.420822,-122.084137,50mi
(This brings up Google’s office in Mountain View, California.)
Click Add Stream & see the results come in
Filter by Klout score
Klout is a way of measuring influence.
Individuals are given a score based on how influential they are on social media. I often will create streams for conferences and find the key influencers by filtering by Klout score.
Set up any stream as you desire
Click the down arrow located on the stream banner
Click Filter by
Click the down arrow next to Filter: and select Klout Score
Move the slider that appeared on the right to the desired Klout score that you want
RSS feed app
This app from HootSuite’s app directory has been a true time saver. As I am constantly creating content, I often easily forget to write a quick tweet or Facebook post to promote it.
If you have an RSS feed for your website’s blog, you can tell HootSuite to automatically schedule tweets and posts to all of your social media accounts, or specific ones, whenever something is posted on your blog.
As a public relations practitioner, HootSuite has helped taken my company’s social media management to a whole new level and I know it can do the same for you regardless of the role you play in your organization.
