Does your university have at least one employee working on social media?
On Tuesday, January 25, University of Florida professor Gary Ritzenthaler tweeted a question that wondered if there exists a credible list of universities with one or more employees devoted specifically to social media.
Since there wasn’t an immediate pointer to this described list (but plenty of hands raised, like this, this, and this), we decided it might be helpful to start one and we’re hoping the #SMCEDU community can help.
In the spirit of crowdsourcing and collaboration, we started an open-to-the-public Google spreadsheet (http://bit.ly/UnivWithSM) that will serve this purpose.
Prof. Ritzenthaler, who is researching how other universities handle their social media presences, isn’t alone in looking for a compiled list of higher ed social media types. If you fit this description (or know someone who does), please add your information! If you have suggestions for editing the list (i.e., add/delete fields), please let me know at yonglee@socialmediaclub.org.
Thank you!
Update:
On Thursday, January 27, @fienen asked for clarification on the term "dedicated" in the title of the spreadsheet.
The original question posed by @gritz99 asked for employees "devoted specifically" to social media, and it's a very important distinction. I've changed the title of the spreadsheet, and hope that provides some clarity.
Although we know many are dedicated users of social media -- meaning believers in the efficacy of social media -- I believe Prof. Ritzenthaler is looking for a different metric: employees whose explicit responsibility is social media use for their university.
