How Becoming a Thought Leader Helps SEO

If you want to stand out, you need to establish your business as a thought leader in your industry by creating content like blog posts, social media posts, articles, press releases, white papers, E-books, guides, etc. Not only will this content help to build trust amongst target audience members, but it will also improve SEO efforts by building inbound links.

While some businesses may understand the importance of content marketing and how it fits into an overall internet marketing and SEO strategy, they might not be getting what that content should be about. All too many businesses make the mistake of using their content to promote products or services. While some self-promotion in content is acceptable, it shouldn’t make up 100% of anything that’s produced. In fact, promotional content that is published online should make up only 10% of content that’s created, or less.

It’s really Marketing 101- it’s not about you, it’s about the customer. What kind of information would they find beneficial? Help them satisfy a need. Once they know that you are a trusted source of information, they will already have you in mind when it comes time to make a purchase.

Other businesses may not be guilty of creating the wrong content, because they just aren’t creating any content at all. The mindset is that they don’t need to spend time creating content to prove how good they are, but of course they do! No matter how successful you may be, there are potential clients or customers out there that don’t know who you are yet, or want to learn more. Thinking that you are “too good” to spend time and invest in content means that you will probably miss out on opportunities to competitors that are doing it all correctly.

Becoming a thought leader and trusted source of information will gradually build natural links to your website. Other website owners will reference your work and social media followers will share your content and boost your social signals. Content shouldn’t be created for the search engines, but if it’s good, it will get their attention anyway.
