No FOMO Here
Picture this. You’ve just uploaded a selfie to your favourite social media website using your phablet when your FIL shares a supercut of a srsly mortifying twerking session. You immediately unlike his page because there isn’t an emoji capable of expressing your desire to vom: apols, but it’s time for a digital detox.
That paragraph includes 9 of 1,000 new words added to the Oxford Dictionary Online this year.
With the exception of a digital detox, who uses these words in everyday speech? Or is the point that they’re used online and nowhere else?
And, twerking? Forget Miley. Can you believe over 12 million people watched this how to video since it was uploaded last winter?
As for FOMO, it’s a noun that means “fear of missing out: anxiety that an exciting or interesting event may currently be happening elsewhere, often aroused by posts seen on a social media website.”
No FOMO here. You get everything, unfiltered.
Thanks for reading.
