What Happened at Social Media Day Detroit 2012?

It was a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon.  Great free food, good drink specials, lots of brands passing out lots of swag, fun social media stunts... but mostly it was about the people.

In a Social Media Club Detroit panel discussion about Detroit, perceptions and social media last month, several transplanted New Yorkers talked about how "freakishly friendly" Detroiters are. That was very evident as I hung out with 1000 or so of my closest friends, most of whom I'd never met. Although plenty of networking was done, it was done in a very friendly, non-salesmanish way. And a lot of talk centered around social media, oddly enough. It was interesting how the talk on social media has changed over the years.

For a taste of the kind of talk centered around social media, here is one of the two interviews I had the pleasure of being a part of, in my capacity as President of the Social Media Club Detroit.

Thanks to Motor City Casino, name sponsor Exact Target and everyone who pulled together a truly fun and interesting event. If you didn't make it, try again next year.
