The Responsibility Of The Blogger Who Tweets

I have been blogging for many years. I believe this year will conclude as my 7th year blogging on Blondish.net. Believe me, it has changed quite a bit. More tools have changed to be more community...

The (Social) Network Is Your Company

John Gage, the 21st employee of Sun Microsystems coined the now famous phrase:

“The Network is the Computer”

which became a prominent feature on the Sun Microsystems’ logo and motto. More than that it became part of their philosophy before the large scale adoption of the internet. They realised that the combined power of computers, interconnected, is the real computer – able to carry out more complex tasks than would otherwise be possible by the boxes we sit in front of today.

That same philosophy applies today in the world of social networking. People use Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram and other social media tools to extend their friendships beyond what would otherwise be possible.

Yahoo Takes a Tumbl?

Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer is looking to make a $1 billion dollar deal in a bid for the micro blogging site, Tumblr. With Tumblr being one of the last ad revenue frontiers in the social media world, Mayer could take the site to new heights by adding her Yahoo know-how.  The buyout could also bring a young, fresh new crowd to Yahoo.

Best Ways to Stay Safe on Social Media

Today's post comes from Craig Robinson. A freelance writer from Qwaya.com – a Facebook ad management tool and helps advertisers organize their campaigns.

It’s not a threat that crosses the mind of the average, social media businessperson, but your information is at great risk any time you log onto the Internet. There are always hackers out there looking to steal your personal information, and even if they’re not going to access your monetary accounts, they can still do a lot of damage to your overall brand.

Nobody wants to deal with online hacking, especially on social media, but it’s a fact of Internet life that we all have to face. So if you’re a company using a site like Facebook, you have to take steps to ensure your safety.

Staying safe is about learning a two-tier system: Things that you need to be aware of, and safe practices to adopt for your business dealings.

Would Gatsby Be As Great On LinkedIn?

Great stories, such as The Great Gatsby, cause us, as the audience to develop a connection with the dynamic characters. For instance, we want to know what Jay Gatsby would do on a Friday night in Auburn or what Daisy Buchanan would think about our new, favorite dress. As we rationalize what decisions these characters would make in our world, we must also wonder how they would level up in our digital workplace.

The Great Gatsby makes for an epic love story, centered around connections, just like our social media professional, LinkedIn. The stories’ connections lead the plot, cause the conflict and eventually lead to the demise of leading man Jay Gatsby. Although the parties seem wildly popular, and connections seem coy and flourishing, I can’t help but think that Jay Gatsby’s LinkedIn profile would be subpar.

The [Social] Source of Gatsby’s Greatness

Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby hit theaters last weekend, and even though it’s only a movie, it feels as if someone took an over-sized needle and injected my life — and everyone else’s — with a very large dose of Gatsby. Everywhere I turn, Gatsby is there.

On twitter, I was surprised to see someone had retweeted a tweet from Jay Gatsby — the fictional, main character — who currently has six twitter accounts, one with a follower count approaching 83,000. Walking down the street is like engaging in a nation wide book club, every few yards you’ll find a woman frantically poring over F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel to be sure she completes it before the book meeting (aka watching the movie). In the span of a three day trip last week, I spotted these book club participants in the Atlanta airport, in middle-of-no-where Lewisberg, PA, and even in the busy streets of New York City.

Showing that you care about your customers

Salesforce com

Salesforce.com is going to be down for 5 minutes tonight. Really, not a big deal to most customers.

Most companies would have hoped nobody would notice. Salesforce gave us all a warning when we logged in.

It’s how you handle the little things that show the quality of your customer service.
