Publisher Spotlight: Brona O’Connor

According to the 2013 Content Marketing Budgets and Benchmark report, social media is the most popular marketing tactic used by B2B marketers.

With over 600,000 newspapers published by and for the B2B industry, I thought it would be interesting to see which tactics are working for our publishers.

In this week’s Publisher Spotlight I speak with Bróna O’Connor, Marketing Executive for FRKelly, and her colleague Shauna Tilley, Community Trade Mark Attorney to understand better how social media and technology are influencing the industry of Patents and Trademarks.

Pinterest Introduces Rich Pins for Businesses to Drive Purchases

Pinterest just became a whole lot more useful to businesses with the announcement of new “Rich Pins” on the official Pinterest blog today.

Instead of just linking back to the pin’s origin, each new Rich Pin will provide users additional information about that item aimed to better put them in a position to make a purchase.

There are three different types of Rich Pins, each with its own unique set of characteristics and opportunities for brands: Product, Recipes, and Movies.

Big Brands, Cool Kids & Why You're Fat

"In every school there are the cool and popular kids, and then there are the not-so-cool kids," Jeffries said in the Salon article. "We go after the cool kids. We go after the attractive all-American kid with a great attitude and a lot of friends. A lot of people don't belong (in our clothes), and they can't belong. Are we exclusionary? Absolutely."

With that out of the way, I can say that I hope his overly lifted face rots in hell, where he will spend an eternity being relentlessly tormented and ridiculed by bullies. Now that I’ve given you a tiny hint about my personal opinion, I think it's time to create a post that is open for debate.

Beat the Summer Slide: Tips for Staying Engaged with College Students

At Verge Pipe Media we have the good fortune of being located next to a prominent southeastern university. We’ve recently welcomed a new crop of upperclassmen students for Imagineership Training, preparing them to lend their voices to our blog and social channels. They have chosen to sacrifice their final summer as a college students for the sake of adventure, hard work and opportunity.

Throughout the year, thousands of other collegiate millennials will tromp through our back yard, and, immediately after finals wrap, they scatter. From May to August we live in a ghost town. If there is anything we’ve learned about working with college students during the summer (especially those about to graduate) it is that competing with the pool and/or drink specials is a tough task. As soon students surrender their last scantron, they eagerly forget the stress of papers, textbooks, and everything that stands between them and graduation.

Find Your Mobile Customers Where They Are

It’s challenging to find your customers, but it probably shouldn’t be, right? I mean, you create a product and find a market and there you go. Business 101.

Today, however, it’s more challenging than it’s ever been. Your customers are living on their terms, not yours. They are doing their best to avoid your direct marketing and advertising. They are living their lives with or without you.

Something I stress to clients is how no customer will ever be as obsessed with your brand as you are! They are carrying on and fitting your brand into their lives.
