That was a line I used in my recent presentation at Search Engine Strategies in New York and was one of the more tweeted excerpts. I really didn’t plan to say it, but the idea was definitely one I firmly believe in. Blogging has single handedly opened up so many doors for me, that I don’t know I’d ever be where I am today without having made the commitment to doing it somewhat regularly over the past few years.
Spreading your activity across several social networking sites can have a positive impact on your overall social media influence. I recently discovered this through a social media game called Empire Avenue.
My husband and I first bonded over video games back in college, so when he moved in with my son and I a few months back, I had flashbacks to our youth as I watched him unpack the original game systems – and games – that he’s held onto all this time.
My son, who is now seven, could not have been more thrilled. Over the last four months, the two of them have bonded over these ‘old school’ video games along with the newer games that my son now plays on his Nintendo DSi.

It’s Friday, so I was thinking about something a little more fun. I always appreciate when companies are willing to have a little fun with me as a customer. It lightens the relationship, making it feel more familiar, comfortable and about the people – not the transaction.

If you think games are frivolous, think again – they help us accomplish the simple, like getting an infant to eat, and the complex, like warming up surgeons or disaster response. But as in all things, moderation is key and some people have died when taking games too far.
