Is BlackBerry promoting Sexting with this ad campaing in El Salvador? Stop this NOW!
A few days ago as I was leaving a School after a conference where I addressed more than 300 High school students about the opportunities an threats of new technologies and social networks, I was very surprised to see an ad Campaign
near this school that seemed to be promoting sexting using a BlackBerry phone
(About 80% of the Students in that school owned a BlackBerry), as you will see
in the pictures (I blurred one the because it is too much!!!) it shows the words “Be Sexy” and a girl almost naked, WHAT KIND OF MESSAGE ARE YOU SENDING TO THE TEEN POPULATION!!!! Well you may judge this for yourself, please tell me what you think is BlackBerry promoting Sexting with this ad campaing in El Salvador?
I urged myself to write a blog about this huge issue to call the attention of BackBerry and all Mobile phone providers to take this matter with great importance, and of course to see if somebody takes these ads down as soon as possible!!! – By the way I love my BlackBerry and I personally think that there is no need to be unethical for advertising the great features and service it provides
Just in case you are not familiar with the term according to Wikipedia sexting is the act of sending sexually explicit messages or photographs, primarily between mobile phones. The term was first popularized around 2005, and is a portmanteau of sex and texting, where the latter is meant in the wide sense of sending a text possibly with images.
Sexting that involves teenagers sending explicit photographs of themselves to their peers has led to a legal gray area in countries that have strict anti-child pornography laws, such as the United States. Some teenagers who have texted photographs of themselves, or of their friends or partners, have been charged with distribution of child pornography, while those who have received the images have been charged with possession of child pornography; in some case the possession charge has been applied to school administrators who have investigated sexting incidents as well. The images involved in sexting are usually different in both nature and motivation from the type of content that anti-child pornography laws were created to address.
Here are 3 good things done by leaders around the world about Sexting:
