Recently there has been lot of buzz around Twitter embracing advertising on it’s platform and initially allowing selected advertisers to take part in the roll-out. These lucky advertisers are Best Buy, Bravo, Red Bull, Sony Pictures, Starbucks, and Virgin America.

Few moments ago when I came back from my lunch I saw a “Promoted” Label next to one of Trending’s keyword- “Toy Story 3″ as you can see in the image below. This is Promoted Trends that Twitter is experimenting in addition to Promoted Tweets.

Promoted Trends

As mentioned on Twitter’s Help Center page on Promoted Tweets- “You will start to see Tweets promoted by our partner advertisers called out at the top of some Twitter.com search results pages.”  A screen shot of the twitter search result is shown below which shows up when you click on “Promoted” label.

One can also see Top Tweet along with how many times it has been Retweeted. This is really a neat feature and I’m sure as things roll out in full and as Twitter gain more insight into how the promoted tweets are performing we will see a lot of advertising avenues for businesses.

Twitter admits that as we they mature they will allow promoted tweets to be shown in individual’s timelines besides appearing else where apart from the search results.

Help Center also highlights that these promoted tweets are Organic and only when lot of people interact with it, favorite it or Retweet it a lot that it will appear else it will disappear. This is not a bad deal.
