Twitter Networking Secrets: Taming the Timeline

It’s time for the timeline. If you really want to know what someone is thinking about (sometimes in that very minute), then you read their timeline. That’s the part of the Twitter profile that shows you what they have been tweeting about. Up to the minute (sometimes second) broadcasts of what’s on their mind. You can’t get more real-time than that. This was especially evident during the World Cup soccer finals earlier this year. You can also see it on any given Sunday in the United States (I had fun reading the Tweets from last Sunday’s Super Bowl).

I recently saw a news broadcast where they showed the tweets of congress men and women from their seats in the middle of a session. Imagine that?  A tweeting politician, expressing their view right from the floor. One wrong message, picked up by the media, and you can kiss your next run for office goodbye.

Pat Sajak and Vanna White recently had a chat about Twitter on the Wheel of Fortune, where Pat told Vanna to get with the 21st century after she mentioned that she doesn’t use Twitter. When she asked what she should tweet about, Pat said, “I don’t know, maybe, ‘I’m getting a sandwich?’” Anyone could tell what was on Pat Sajak’s mind at that very moment. Vanna was not sold on the idea.

So, how about you? Have you considered how your timeline reflects your state of mind? Did you know that the timeline is searchable on Twitter?  How’s that bio looking? Are you confident your one link is the best use of that space?

Take a look, and please feel free to share. I know many of my very #TwitSavvy friends will read this and have their own opinion. That’s all this is, a perspective. Now, how about some feedback?
