Currently, we're actively seeking community members to relaunch this chapter. If you're interested please email Jessica at jessica [at] socialmediaclub [dot] org for further details. We look forward to hearing from you!
As Will mentioned in his earlier post, our launch meeting was terrific.
One of the biggest topics we touched upon was what the Social Media Club -- ABQ is all about.
This is a topic that I would like to see raised every time we meet. True to the nature of our industry, and the technology supporting our communications and roles, the answer is dynamic. It must constantly adjust to meet changing demands, abilities and logistics.
But there are some constants:
Membership is open to everyone but the focus will stay on the professional uses of social media.
Internally we'll support each other in the development of best practices and the sharing of SocMed trends and developments. We will remain committed to the practice of social media as it benefits our clients, our communities and our selves. We'll avoid the use of social media as a form of marketing snake oil, and recognize that it's one tool in a bag (box or bucket) of marketing communication tools.
Externally we'll become an "education in action" team, fulfilling the Social Media Club's tag line: If You Get It, Share It. This means that as we better understand and utilize social media, we must share our knowledge and expertise with the community at large.
In a nutshell, Social Media Club ABQ is about
As we grow, we will follow the Social Media Club's mission and grow its applications to our experiences involving Media Literacy, Sharing Lessons Learned, Encouraging Adoption of Industry Standards and Promoting Ethical Behavior.
I’ve a database of all those who attended the first meeting, and those who have expressed an interest in the club. I’ll use this list for all directs communications. Of course, if you want to be deleted from the list or added to the list, simply let me know.
We'll be tweeting using the hashtage #smcnm.
Thank you all!
We held our first meeting, at the Chama River Brewing Company in Albuquerque, and had a great turnout of serious professionals. The energy was incredible and planning began immediately.
Dovya Friedman has agreed to be our president, and Wendy Forbes, Terri Jenkins, Nancy Anderson and I have agreed to be part of the initial leadership team. We can expect additional members in the near future.
There will be much to realy--many exciting things happening both locally and internationally--but wanted to let everyone know we are making headway and are quickly becoming New Mexico's only organization for professional social media practitioners.
Welcome to Social Media Club Albuquerque, where innovators from New Mexico meets for monthly events to share, engage and collaborate with the community on the issues of social media and technology. We launched our chapter in May 2010, and our leadership board includes Dovya Friedman and William Reichard. For more information, please leave a comment here or visit our LinkedIn group and say hello.
5/25 starting at 6 p.m. at the Chama River Brewing Company, http://chamariverbrewery.com/.
Just an introductory meeting to let everyone meet each other and start to chart our direction.
