Non-minutes from SMC Albuquerque's first meeting.
As Will mentioned in his earlier post, our launch meeting was terrific.
One of the biggest topics we touched upon was what the Social Media Club -- ABQ is all about.
This is a topic that I would like to see raised every time we meet. True to the nature of our industry, and the technology supporting our communications and roles, the answer is dynamic. It must constantly adjust to meet changing demands, abilities and logistics.
But there are some constants:
Membership is open to everyone but the focus will stay on the professional uses of social media.
Internally we'll support each other in the development of best practices and the sharing of SocMed trends and developments. We will remain committed to the practice of social media as it benefits our clients, our communities and our selves. We'll avoid the use of social media as a form of marketing snake oil, and recognize that it's one tool in a bag (box or bucket) of marketing communication tools.
Externally we'll become an "education in action" team, fulfilling the Social Media Club's tag line: If You Get It, Share It. This means that as we better understand and utilize social media, we must share our knowledge and expertise with the community at large.
In a nutshell, Social Media Club ABQ is about

As we grow, we will follow the Social Media Club's mission and grow its applications to our experiences involving Media Literacy, Sharing Lessons Learned, Encouraging Adoption of Industry Standards and Promoting Ethical Behavior.
Communication
I’ve a database of all those who attended the first meeting, and those who have expressed an interest in the club. I’ll use this list for all directs communications. Of course, if you want to be deleted from the list or added to the list, simply let me know.
