A Synopsis of Our May Event: "The Customer Centered Social"
On May 2, the Social Media Club Chicago and SOBCon presented “The Customer Centered Social” at Loyola University. Chicago’s business and technology industries began gearing up for the two-day Successful Online Business Conference (SOBCon) by coming together for this joint event. The audience listened to a panel discussion moderated by Dr. Donald Heider, the first appointed dean of Loyola University Chicago’s School of Communication. The panel was comprised of three women who frequently use social media to communicate with customers. Xan Pearson is the Vice President of Marketing, Social Media Strategist, and Sports Sponsorship for the Bulls/Sox Training Academy, Theresa Carter is the Founder and Publisher of the entertainment and food website TheLocalTourist.com, and Jessica Masterson is the Social Media Manager of US Cellular.
Personal Branding Lessons - A Recap of Our April Event
SMC Chicago and SMC DePaul hosted a joint event on April 18. “Personal Branding in the Digital Era” took place at Pazzo’s Cucina downtown Chicago. After guests arrived and checked in, they mingled while noshing on pizza and soft drinks, courtesy of Pazzo’s. The personal branding panel began at 6:30, which consisted of Lauri Dietz, Zach Stafford, and Mana Ionescu. SMC DePaul co-founder Ryan Zieman moderated the panel, which lasted about 45 minutes. When the panel ended, SMC DePaul presented the speakers with gifts including a DePaul bag, a silver DePaul business card holder and a book.
Mana Ionescu, Founder of Lighspan Digital (@manamica) gave us these tips on personal branding:
• “There is no privacy in social media, so think twice before you post that picture of you at that party.”

The Best of the SXSW Best at SMC Chicago

On Tuesday, March 26th the Chicago Social Media Club brought together the “best of the best” SXSW panel of Chicagoan’s to redux or review their experiences at the SXSW conference.
With the usual buzz, candor and social media style, the meeting began with introductions of the Chicago Social Media Club organizers: Jeff Willinger, Barbara Rozgonyi, Caroline Martin and Elly Deutsch.
Then panel members: Ed Brill, Lizz Kannenberg, Melissa Pierce and Chris Miller.
