The NOW Revolution - social marketing is 7x24

Reading the NOW Revolution by Jay and Amber provided solid chunks of useful, actionable information that can have an impact right away… from helping shift a mindset to redraw how an organization communicates.  They do point out the criticaliy of putting a team in place; social media is not a solo effort and this book is a great resource for organizations wanting to get more out of their social efforts.

I really enjoyed the checklists the authors created to help the reader with their application of the content to their situation.  They were useful and lead the reader through a wonderful experience in how to further align social projects with corporate goals.  The case studies, videos and podcasts that are accessible via the MS-Tags embedded throughout the book provide a level of interactivity and participation that made the experience more engaging – it made the reading more fun!

Being a fan of metrics, measurement and ROI questions in social media marketing myself, I found the section on metrics and measurement awesome.  They reinforce the correct precept that return-on-marketing investment (ROMI) is a discipline unto itself; witness a whole conference next week in Boston dedicated to marketing measurement, IIR’s MeasureUp event.  In the book, Jay and Amber suggest that every social marketing practitioner will need to address the ROI question, and sooner is always better than later – I heartily agree.

Regardless if you’re an experienced hand at social media or newly minted social content creator, giving the NOW Revolution a read will take you a bit further down the path - Mr. Baer and Ms. Naslund have done a great job in addressing the immediacy that social media gives to an organization.

Side note -

Always wanting to try new things, I started on the ink/paper version and finished on the Google Books version (OK - it's really because I loaned out my paper copy to co-worker to make a particular point before I finished it – what was I thinking!) In the Google eBook version on the iPhone, none of the links worked and I was not able to scan the QRcode as I was on my phone at the time reading.

DISCLOSURE - I've talked to / interviewed Jay before and admire his work; Amber is coming to Denver this summer - hope to meet her too!
