Welcome Social Media Club Halifax
Welcome to Social Media Club Halifax, where innovators from Nova Scotia will meet for monthly events to share, engage and collaborate with the community on the issues of social media and technology. We are currently working to relaunch our chapter, and our leadership board includes Christine Larade. For more information, please leave a comment, follow us on Facebook or our Twitter feed, and say hi.
The Game Plan
Hello!
My name is Jordy Fujiwara, I guess I'm the captain of this ship, which at the time of writing is sort of empty.
A bit about myself: Currently I am taking an MBA at Dalhousie. I'm part of the new Corporate Residency MBA program that started in 2009. During my 8-month work term at Coburg Consultants Ltd. (a student owned firm that myself and another student purchased in January 2010) I discovered my passion for social media and its implications/applications for the business world. I want to have a career working in this field.
The MBA experience has taught me the value of networking time and time again, so when I happened upon this site during one of my usual tangential Internet forays I seized the opportunity to found the Halifax chapter of Social Media Club.
My goal with this is to arrange some highly informal gatherings (probably monthly) in and around the city for like-minded individuals. Currently, Halifax already sort of has a "New Media" gathering called Third Wednesdays: http://www.3whfx.com/ This occurs on the third Wednesday (surprise!) of every month at the Foggy Goggle on Argyle Street, from 5pm to 8pm. With this Chapter I hope to perhaps provide both an alternative meeting time for those who cannot make the 3W time and maybe a smaller and focussed discussion since 3W caters to an audience wider than just 'social media' (wide as the topic of social media already is).
When will this start up? I'm not entirely sure. My schedule is consistently hectic and will not get any better when school resumes in September. I am completely open to having someone or someones assist me in the organization of it... currently I am building a social media experiment for the city of Halifax so I might try and recruit some members for this out of the connections I build in doing that. Also, I plan to attend some 3Ws and gauge the interest level there.
So yeah, my purpose of posting this is to let those who might stumble upon here know what my general thoughts are, and to provide a forum in which potential members can make suggestions.
Cheers,
Jordy
