Volunteers Needed for Digital Literacy Classes at Public Libraries
As Google Fiber installations have begun in earnest, Connecting for Good plans to conduct free digital literacy classes at public libraries on both sides of the state line.
Besides introducing people to basic Internet skills, the sessions will include helping those involved to actually go through the Google Fiber sign up process.
For class participants who need a computer but can't afford one, vouchers will be given out that will allow them to get a good, Internet-ready refurbished computer for as low as $50.
For this effort to be a success, volunteers are needed to serve as trainers and on-on-one mentors to work with participants during the hands on times during the sessions.
The library sessions scheduled so far are:
Southeast Branch, 6242 Swope Parkway Kansas City, MO
March 2nd @ 11:30am to 2pm
March 16th @ 11:30am to 1pm
March 30th @ 11:30am to 2pm/>/>
Waldo Branch, 201 E 75th St Kansas City, MO
March 23rd @ 10am to 2pm
More dates will be scheduled at additional branches as the fiber installation schedule is released.
