Will The B2B Social Media Book Make Me a Marketing Superstar?
Will The B2B Social Media Book make you a "marketing superstar"? That remains to be seen. What this book, written by Kipp Bodnar and Jeffrely L. Cohen will do for the business to business marketer, however, is help you understand what makes a good marketer great, and how to turn that great marketing into actual business leads. And, how is this done? By utilizing their five-step process for social media lead generation, which starts with the basics of generating potential leads through social media and ends with amplifying your results to become a "marketing superstar".
What does all that mean? It means that if you follow the steps laid out in this book, and engage the three "steps to superstardom" at the end of each chapter, you will have in place a strategy for growing your business through all methods of social media, from search to e-mail to the big three networks (Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn).
However, the one major problem I found with Bodnar and Cohen's approach was that it began to feel like a "how-to" for each individual network. They outline the differences between Facebook pages and profiles, what Twitter is and how to retweet and use hashtags, and how to use LinkedIn groups. They even cover how to make trade shows social. And while I found all of this information valuable, it didn't fit within the framework of making me a "marketing superstar."
So, in the end, would I recommend this book? I think the first and third section are well worth the time and effort, but, there are better books for "how-to" use the various social networks.
