What happens next?
The Social Media Club of Madison was initially formed in Madison in 2010, led by Melissa Anderson as President and Marlena Deutsch as Board Chair. Besides educational programs and monthly social events, the club has pursued fundraising over the past 2 years to raise the money to apply for full Chapter status. Part of the requirements, along with $1000 chapter fees, was an elected board. In addition, all the board officers must hold a professional membership status with the national Social Media Club.
Member Contributions – Time, Talent and $$
Of course, one person can’t do it all. Even 9 people can’t do it all.
The first and most important step each general member can take is to sign up as a free or paid member of SMC national via the Social Media Club Website . When we exceed 10 paid members, the chapter will actually start getting a % of fees back to the club for working expenses.
Second order of business is connecting. Send the board member a customized message wherever possible to let them know you’re interested in #MadisonSMC and why. Even if you weren’t ready to take the lead, but want to help on an event or in some other “social” way, then let the chair of that area know. Tweet, FaceBook them, or message them on LinkedIn. They certainly will need willing committee members to help them in the upcoming year.
Third, contribute by sharing your thoughts, comments and images on the Madison SMC blog/website , Madison SMC on FaceBook, Madison SMC on Twitter, LinkedIn Group or even on Madison SMC Group on Flickr .
And last, don’t forget to participate in the conversation that is going on. Be approachable and be a trust agent in the social space.
Collaborations
This is an exciting time for Wisconsin and Social Media Club of Madison. The Milwaukee SMC was recently relaunched and we expect to have several joint and collaborative events with them.
In the past we have held joint education events with Accelerate Madison, holiday social parties with Social Media Breakfast Madison, and a spring get together with Habitat Young Professionals.
Do you have any ideas for a speaker or a joint event with another Madison Area group for networking?
