Experimenting With The Newly Installed Facebook Connector Plugin on The Social Media Club of Southwest Florida Site
I'm experimenting with the newly installed Facebook Connector plugin setup by Brian Yerkes (http://www.brianyerkes.com/) on the Social Media Club of Southwest Florida's site. You can find the plugin in the sidebar of our club's site at http://www.smcswfl.org/. It appears to allow for subscribing and logging into the club's site using your Facebook login information with the click of a mouse. The plugin also allows you to invite your other Facebook friends to subscribe to the site as well. It appears to have some kind of commenting feature which I haven't figured out yet.
This may also help us build community around the site by allowing visitors to the site to quickly get to another registered users Facebook profile. The plugin also pulls the basic information from your Wordpress registration data such as a personal URL or website address and short bio. When viewing someone's individual profile, it also appears to pull your most recent status update from Twitter. At this point, I have no idea how it's identified my Twitter account – ask Brian….
I've included a snapshot of how my personal profile appears on the site. Great concept. I hope the plugin author continues to enhance this tool. For our club, this could allow people to easily be recognized as a members and connect with others. Our club has over 325 members of our Facebook group, so many of those involved will be setup on Facebook already. Very interesting.
