#SMCNASH August Recap: Rethink sales as communications, says Ryan Sauers
Thanks to Pamela Coyle for the recap of Social Media Club Nashville's August 2010 program, featuring Ryan T. Sauers, discussing key points from his book, "Everyone Is in Sales"
"Rethink sales as communications, says Ryan Sauers"
Words and concepts go in and out of fashion, and neither “sales” nor “marketing” are terribly popular right now. Introduce yourself at a networking event with, “I’m in sales” and watch new acquaintances and potential clients tastefully back away.
Ryan Sauers wants to replace “sales” with “communications.” Of course you wouldn’t say, “I’m in communications,” but thinking of sales as communications (yes, plural) is a good start.
“Typical ‘sales’ is seen as pushy, aggressive, gimmicky, with name repetition, body mirroring and the power handshake,” he says. “We’ve all experienced those people. Don’t do it.”
