Social Butterfly Tips for the Busy Bee: Social Networking at BarCamp and After

Saturday October 15th, 2011 BarCamp Nashville at Cadillac Ranch, downtown is the place to be for all geeks, marketers, techies, and wanna-B cool kids (yes, you will be cool if you go!).

Come on down to learn some things, meet some people, and enrich your life with lasting connections. Here’s a few tips to make the most of the day and fill your social calendar for weeks afterward:

“A little birdie told me you want to meet me”

Prepare yourself before you go to BarCamp by following the presenters on Twitter and make a list of hashtags you want to follow. There are conversations going on prior to BarCamp about the presentation topics. Find people that you want to meet IRL (in real life) and Tweet to them before going that you want to meet up with them there.

“Be social and buzz around”

While the sessions are going on, so are lots of conversations. Check the #BCN11 hashtag on Twitter often throughout the day to join in the conversation, Tweet pics of what you are doing and find out what is going on in other sessions.

“Be wise, like an owl”

Business cards are helpful to collect, but you may not get an opportunity to meet everyone you want to connect with at BarCamp. It gets crowded, so be prepared to jot down or keep notes on your smartphone, ipad, etc. the names of people or companies that you want to check out after BarCamp. Do your homework and find the people or companies on LinkedIn the following week. You now have an excuse to contact them, since you have BarCamp in common. It’s a great ice breaker.

“Birds of a feather flock together”

Meet up and connect with fellow Social Media Club Nashville friends by following @SMCNash and #SMCNash on Twitter or join our Facebook Group to find a friendly face in the crowd at BarCamp.

Feel free to add your own networking & social networking tips below, so we can all make the most of the BarCamp experience and gain valuable connections for friendship and business collaboration.

See ya there!
