My, how time flies! Many of you may not know the history of Social Media Club Nashville (SMCNash), so here’s a little walk down memory lane to catch you up:
Social Media Club Nashville was co-founded April 2009 by Georgia Cross and Jessica Murray, as a result of meeting at Dave Delaney’s Geek Breakfast. At the time, there were many tech and marketing groups and organizations, but not any specifically targeted to social media. Upon some research, there were Social Media Clubs in other cities, operating under the umbrella of what is our parent organization, the global Social Media Club non-profit organization.
Before last week I knew Oreck to be a leader in the world of vacuums. But I did not know them to be a leader in the world of innovation or air purifiers. At the video premier party for Oreck’s newest air purifier, the AirInstinct 200, there were bloggers, twitterholics, and geeks. But even more noticeably were the inspiring brains behind this inspiring company.
Championed by an energizing CEO and hosted by a savvy social media specialist, this event was an unexpected delight. To kick off the event Oreck’s CEO, Doug Cahill, opened up with a few words about what they’ve been up to and where he sees the company going in the future (bagless anyone??). After a quick mention of the new Oreck Magnesium vacuum it was time to get to the real superstar of the night: the AirInstinct 200.
Social Media Analytics: Effective Tools for Building, Interpreting, and Using Metrics by Marshall Sponder
Social Media Analytics is the most comprehensive book I’ve read on, you guessed it, social media analytics. It is an advanced read that takes a deeper dive that most. I have discovered that the majority of books on social media, web 2.0, etc. all say the same thing, just wrapped in a different package. I was wondering if this book would be like that, yet I was pleasantly surprised to find that it is not. It is target to the advanced level social media professional. It goes beyond just measuring likes and followers. If you are interested in learning how to actually put some real analytics in place this book can help you get there. Here are the key topics that I found the most helpful:
International social media monitoring

Saturday October 15th, 2011 BarCamp Nashville at Cadillac Ranch, downtown is the place to be for all geeks, marketers, techies, and wanna-B cool kids (yes, you will be cool if you go!).
Come on down to learn some things, meet some people, and enrich your life with lasting connections. Here’s a few tips to make the most of the day and fill your social calendar for weeks afterward:
“A little birdie told me you want to meet me”
Prepare yourself before you go to BarCamp by following the presenters on Twitter and make a list of hashtags you want to follow. There are conversations going on prior to BarCamp about the presentation topics. Find people that you want to meet IRL (in real life) and Tweet to them before going that you want to meet up with them there.
