New Social Media Club Chapter Launches & Hosts First Event

Any Silicon Valley resident will tell you that we have no shortage of social media related events in our area. It was about a year ago that I hopped in my car and drove out to my first Social Media Club San Francisco/Silicon Valley chapter event expecting another ho-hum discussion about how cool social media is and how being on Facebook will change your life forever. My expectations were off. In fact, I enjoyed the top notch speakers, intriguing topics, and diverse crowd of professionals so much that I attended about a half a dozen other Social Media Club events over the following months. Each just as informative and thought provoking as the last.

Living closer to the south bay area, it is a bit more difficult for me to travel to San Francisco where most of these great events were being hosted. This year however, my wish has been granted! 2011 marks the official launch of the Social media Club Silicon Valley chapter or SMCSV (the San Francisco chapter will now be known as SMCSFO).

The newly formed chapter will host the first of many events on January 27th with an incredible line up of thinkers and doers discussing the topic of “Social Media for Social Good”. A quick glance at the description of each panelist and you know this event will be far from typical. The event will be located at PayPal in San Jose and feature the Silicon Valley’s own Louis Gray VP of marketing at My6Sense. Register for the event here: http://smcsvjan11.eventbrite.com/

Now with a new chapter comes all kinds of great opportunities. Here are the top 5 ways that you can get involved in the Social Media Club Silicon Valley Chapter during 2011:

  1. Follow us on Facebook or on Twitter and spread the word.
  2. Attend one or more of the monthly events hosted throughout the south bay area. Get there early to network with some of the smartest people in the valley.
  3. Become a sponsor for one of the SMCSV events and put your product or service in front of crowds of social media professionals, marketers, & enthusiasts.
  4. Donate your meeting space or business for an upcoming event. We will take care of the rest!
  5. Chip in some of your time as a volunteer. Beyond the monthly events there are opportunities to do so much more with a few hours a month of your help.

So what do you think? Will I see you on January 27th?
