July 12, 2010 Topic: What's on your mind?

Social Media Club Education Connection (aka #SMCEDU) is a national initiative whose goal is to unite educators, students, and professionals to further the development of social media curriculum in our schools, enabling a wider network of learning and workforce preparedness.

#SMCEDU is a part of Social Media Club, a nonprofit organization that is working to promote media literacy and connect people to share what they are learning about social media./>/>/>

Summer can be a time away from the usual routine for many in the educational world, and so #SMCEDU chat has been taking a more relaxed approach to the schedule over the past couple of months. What I'd like to do today is highlight a couple things that I've come across and invite comment on these or any other suggested topics:

  • Virginia Commonwealth University is hosting the Iraqi Young Leaders Exchange Program (#vcuiylep). This program invites students from Iraq to take part in a summer course at a host American university, and VCU's guests have already shared some very special insights on their blogs. To learn more about this program, check out their homepage.
  • Ever get tired of the term, "social media?" Do you feel like it's a buzzword that turns people off? Here's a post from iMedia Connection that seeks to examine why.

Hope everyone's enjoying the summer! />
