#SMCEDU Chat Recap: Mid-summer regroup
#SMCEDU is a part of Social Media Club, a nonprofit organization that is working to promote media literacy and connect people to share what they are learning about social media./>/>/>

For many educators and students, the summer's a time to recharge and relax. #SMCEDU is still at it, though, and today we held another chat to cover the topics involving social media and higher education.

Reschedule of our Unconference
We were planning to host the first #SMCEDU unconference at American Unversity on July 31, but have encountered a couple of snags. We want to put together a great event, and are working to re-schedule for later this year.

The VCU Iraqi Young Leaders Exchange Program
This summer, Virginia Commonwealth University is hosting several Iraqi students to take part in a summer course in the United States. I've been keeping up with their blog, and have found it a fascinating exploration in how technology and education can create exposure to different cultures. The social media presence at VCU is advanced, and the visiting students were asked to submit blog posts to the White House website.

Growth models
Aaron Goldstein, a student at American University, brought up the topic of growth model testing during the chat. This alternative to standardized testing is used to monitor progress of students during elementary education."
The faults in standardized testing are well-documented, but I don't know of many options that have been embraced. While I still don't know much about growth model testing, it could serve as a future topic. Teachers, what are your thoughts?
