The Now Revolution, written by Jay Baer and Amber Naslund, aims to help business owners make their organizations (more) social media ready.  However, I think a slight adjustment should be made.  You do not have to be a business owner to thoroughly appreciate and learn from this book.

The book takes you through seven shifts of the revolution including: an introduction, how to recruit the right employees, how to organize your teams, how to use social media to your company’s advantage, proper response time, what to do when a crisis unveils and how to calculate your return on investment.  Each chapter takes you through the importance of each phase and gives you lots of ideas that you can take back to your own business.
 

The Now Revolution stands apart from other social media how-to’s because they bring online concepts right into the book.  Each shift (chapter) contained two or more QR codes.  They literally acted as hyperlinks.  Although the book gave excellent examples about creative marketing ideas and strategies used by both well-known and up-and-coming companies, you can actually see them for yourself.
 

I must confess that I am usually quite careful with my reading material, but The Now Revolution did not fare as well as the others.  My copy is littered with highlighted paragraphs, notes in the margins and dog-eared pages.  The book is filled with so many tips and tricks that would be beneficial to any social media professional.  I know that I will have to reread the book and organize all of my notes.
 

Would I recommend The Now Revolution to a friend or family member?  Absolutely. 

Perhaps the best part is you don’t have to be an advanced social media user to appreciate the book.  (Proof: my husband, who neither enjoys reading nor my social media chatter, read Shift 4: Answer the New Telephone and said it was “interesting.”)  The book is a must-read for anyone who is even remotely interested in learning more about social media and the evolution of the business world.
