Join us as we wrap up a social 2012 for a time of mingling, interaction and discussion, PLUS a couple of presentations on the latest tools, discoveries and what & how innovators in Victoria are doing social media. We meet from 7:00 – 9 :00 p.m. but the Social Media Help Desk is available at 6:30 p.m.

For our December Mixer we welcome:

Helen & Chris Edley of Landsharkz
Helen & Chris will be talking about geocaching, what it is, it’s history and how to get involved. They’ll also look into the relationship between geocaching and tourism on Vancouver Island and around the globe. Chris has served as President and Director of the BC Geocaching Association and together they have liaised with parks departments in BC and across Canada, as well as tourism regions, to use geocaching as a tool to bring a new group of visitors to the parks or to offer a new activity to repeat visitors.

Thomas Okuszko, The Hero Network
Thomas is the Founder and CEO of the HERO Network; aiming to create a core vision of community through technology. Identifying a need to replace the current alert systems he created a mobile network commented to child safety through community participation. Thomas will be presenting the HERO Network initiative and speaking about the experiences that lead him to create this mobile application of goodwill. He will expand on his goal of the social benefit and outline the development roadmap set ahead for the project.

Social Media Help Desk
If you have any social media questions or need assistance, come early for the “Social Media Help Desk” which runs 6:30 – 7:00 p.m. for all levels of users. Bring your questions regarding Facebook pages, what a hashtag means and how to best gather search engine optimization.

Location: The cafe side of Veneto Tapa Lounge in the Hotel Rialto, on the corner of Douglas and Pandora.
