The Importance of Place - Beyond the Check In
So what Location Based Service (LBS) is in your pocket these days – Foursquare, Gowalla, Yelp, Facebook Places, others? What do you do with it? Do you just want to be the mayor of your front porch or do you use it for other things? If you're in business, what's the right LBS strategy for you?
On Dec. 2, Social Media Club Richmond, welcomes Dean Browell, PhD to speak on the rapidly changing LBS landscape. Many of us are aware of the basic LBS concepts but in this presentation, Dean is going to help us explore lots of concepts beyond the "Check In". For example, what is the value of check in information to millions of users who never check in to anything. How are they impacted by the check in data of others, such as choosing a restaurant or hospital based on who has been there or seeking the testimonial of a friend who they've seen has been there.
As an introduction to the event, Common Man Films has produced two short videos. Check them out at the links below:

About Dean:

Dean Browell leads Feedback’s social media charge as Executive Vice President and resident PhD with a passion for how generations interact online. His work can be seen across many industries including healthcare, education, tourism, automotive, retail and more. Dean recognizes that the idea of a “social” media is not at all new – evidenced by everything from AOL message boards to the latest Facebook or Twitter technology. His approach encourages brands to listen and observe audiences before developing innovative plans and stewarding creative solutions that engage and develop relationships. In 2009 Dean created the perfect incubator for social media development by forming Feedback, Inc with ad industry veteran Jeff Thompson and Anna Lucas to the benefit of marketing, communications and public relations firms around the country. You can follow him on Twitter at @dbrowell.

About the Event:
This month, SMCRVA returns to the Barksdale Theater at Willow Lawn. We love this venue because it puts the speaker in the center of the room with the audience on three sides. Great for interacting! There will be cash bar as well as food from Great Wraps.
We'll follow our usual schedule:
6 - 7:15 - Networking
7:15 - 8:15 - Program / Q&A
8:15 - 9 Networking and meet with Dean
