Join SMCRVA on Tuesday, March 29 for “Tumblr 101: It’s in Style” at the Barksdale Theatre at Willow Lawn.

Launched in 2007, Tumblr has more than 15 million blogs and is quickly becoming the go-to option for people and brands to share thoughts and ideas. What is it? Tumblr is a microblogging platform that allows users to easily post texts, images, videos, links, quotes and audio to their tumblelog, a short-form blog. Several media companies and brands have jumped on the Tumblr bandwagon, including theWashington PostNewsweek, Richmond’s very own Richmond Times-DispatchIBM, and even …Huggies.

Major fashion bloggers are flocking to Tumblr, too. In February, Tumblr sent 24 bloggers to New York Fashion Week to cover runway shows using the #NYFW feed. March’s panel will include the basics of Tumblr and how consumers and businesses can leverage its simple and efficient platform. Panelists include:

  • Marc LaFountain,Tumblr: LaFountain is vice president of community support at Tumblr. He and his wife live in The Fan area of Richmond.
  • Rich Tong, Tumblr: Tong is fashion editor at Tumblr and lives in Brooklyn, NY.
  • Rebecca Stice, TheClothesHorse: Stice started her blog in 2007 and is one of the 24 bloggers who recently covered NY Fashion Week for Tumblr.
  • Jeff Rock, Mobelux: Rock is the Co-founder and Product Director of Mobelux, the developers of the Tumblr iPhone, Android and BlackBerry mobile apps. He loves good beer and great design.

After Tumblr’s office opening in Richmond, Mashable recently mentioned that the company’s roadmap is headed straight for the creative community. Come out to learn the basics of Tumblr, how you can use it and what’s next for the growing social media space.
