Social Gaming, A Role Model?

There are worldwide more than 400 million social gamers, including 83 million alone Farmville. The application published by the American Zynga owes its success to the tremendous distribution platform that is Facebook and its social features of recommendation and interpersonal exchange. Because therein lies the originality of these games to a new genre: the pleasure withdrawn by the player does not follow from the sophistication of the gameplay, the complexity of the scenario or the richness of the graphics, but is primarily based the social experience provided by these gaming applications to the strong community dimension, characterized by their simplicity of handling and short duration of play This explains their success with audiences who are traditionally reluctant to play: the average age of social gamer is 30 years and women account for 60% of all players across the Atlantic!
According to research firm eMarketer conducted last July, the weight of social gaming market for 2011 will exceed one billion dollars. This figure represents the total advertising spending in this segment added to the income generated by micro-payments from users. This second source of income is the most important-especially because of the success of "virtual goods" which serve as currency for transactions between players, and Facebook has understood who recently moved to organize the purchase through its system of "credits".
With 3 million social gamers, the French market is no exception to this phenomenon. Therefore, the Social Media Club France intends to identify good practices that emerged around this growing activity, and to discuss with industry professionals to the challenges and opportunities related to the strategies of user engagement and monetize these social games have unearthed.
