Social Media Club Presents: Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit
Wed. March 16 2011
6:00pm - 9:00pm
You won't want to miss this one. Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit will share its story and explain how leveraging social Web communications has aided its mission of putting Metro Detroiters back to work through job creation, preparedness training and education. Goodwill Industries is the only organization in Southeast Michigan solely dedicated to helping Metro Detroiters overcome employment challenges and earn jobs. In just the past two years, Goodwill’s social enterprises have placed more than 2,400 Wayne, Oakland and Macomb county individuals into new jobs and provided education, training and career assistance to thousands more in the region. This year marks Goodwill Industries’ 90th anniversary too!
From winning a national YouTube video contest (and $500 towards job training and education programs) to securing the donation of a 26-foot “Dollars for Jobs” truck through Twitter, Goodwill has been utilizing its social media relationships to get the community involved in the fight against unemployment. Mark Lane, director of public relations and special events for Goodwill, will delve into how Goodwill has been able to help even more people earn jobs by leveraging these online networks, including its latest campaign, “Dollars for Jobs” (http://www.facebook.com/GoodwillDollarsforJobs).
