We’re excited to announce Denise Laitinen as our featured member for this #MembershipMonday! Did you know she has 7 cats and dogs that are all rescue pets? She has been with SMCHI for over 2 years and joined to interact with other like-minded social media professionals, to learn and to network. Social media IS her job. She uses it daily for business networking, socializing and learning. Her favorite social media platform is Facebook because it’s where most of the people she knows hangs out. July 20th — Tijay Syn-Rodrigues, Fund Development Coordinator of Partners in Development Foundation
Tijay has been with SMCHI for four months and he joined to meet new people and get experience working with other industry professionals! Tijay shared that there are lots of talented, enthusiastic board members. Thanks Tijay! He says that one of his tasks is to get this organization “on the map,” and I believe social media will be instrumental to this mission. His favorite social media platform is Facebook because the simplified blogging style is what he currently needs. For social media advice Tijay visits Social Media Examiner, he follows the Civil Beat blog, and his favorite website is Reddit. He doesn’t necessarily look to celebrities for social media advice, but he enjoys seeing what his friends and acquaintances are doing. His favorite quote is Matthew 22:36-40
36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’
38 This is the first and greatest commandment.
39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.””
Tijay’s motto is simply committing to being his best. His favorite place to eat is Yaki Yaki Miwa and his favorite place to grab a drink is Brue Bar. The last place he visited was ProtoHUB Honolulu and he would love to visit Japan. Mahalo Tijay for being a part of SMCHI!
July 27th – Ryan K. Hew, Attorney at Law
Ryan Hew has been with SMCHI for 3 years and he joined to network and bring the knowledge of the law to the use of social media users. He believes the best part of the club is the members and they’re great resources and a very active community. He would like to see the organization transit into being a professional organization that provides resources, sets standards, and in general be along the like of many other established professional organizations such as the Chamber, Retail Merchants, PRSA, etc. Ryan uses social media every day to actively engage anyone who is interested in understanding law, policy, and compliance issues. He likes Facebook because the ease of sharing content. For social media advice he goes to people who are subject matter experts. He follows a variety of blogs depending on whether it is for work (lawyer blogs – Hawaii or national ones) or personal (vlogs on YouTube – food, video gaming, or cultural). His favorite hashtag is #drawthelaw. Ryan’s favorite quote is one by William Shakespeare, “All the world’s a stage, And all the men and women merely players. They have their exits and their entrances; And one man in his time plays many parts.” His advice is to try everything, but be smart about it. He’d love to visit anywhere that has good food. In general, he keeps his practice approachable via social media and is always happy to grab coffee or lunch. As he is an active member of the local bar, know that even if he cannot handle your legal needs he can provide referrals. Lastly, he says to not be intimidated by lawyers, “Reach out and communicate with us as the law always surrounds us (like social media)!” Mahalo Ryan for being a part of SMCHI and approaching social media in a different way.
