National Day of Unplugging

The fourth annual National Day of Unplugging is upon us, a day when participants around the world pledge to spend 24 hours completely tech-free. I know, I know…are they crazy??!!!

But seriously. Many of our jobs require us to monitor online discussions around our product or service, which means a device is never far from our hands or eyes for too long.

However, ‘always being on’ is not good for your health, or your mental state. It can kill your productivity. It can destroy creativity. It can disrupt your sleep. It can increase your stress.

Sometimes, you need to simply unplug. Turn it all off.

While I don’t expect many of you will refrain for a whole 24 hours, please know the world will continue to spin if you go offline for a couple of hours and treat yourself to some ‘me’ time.

Sign off right now and:

  • Read a book.
  • Go for a walk.
  • Play Scrabble.
  • Knit a sweater.
  • Go see a movie.
  • Call your parents.
  • Cook a nice dinner.
  • Grab your skiis/board and hit the slopes.

Or go crazy and simply…sleep.

Whatever it is you choose to do, just do it offline. Your body will thank you for it.
