She is actively engaged in social media including Twitter, Facebook, Yelp, Pinterest, and LinkedIn. She has used social media to drive awareness on opportunities and interaction with potential candidates. She enjoys finding engaging and relevant content to share with her followers.
Doug Harb, Makai Search Recruitment
Doug is a leader with a strong background in the corporate and entrepreneurial worlds. Doug is currently running an executive search firm in Honolulu called Makai Search Group, focusing on placing executives with companies who believe cultural fit is crucial. Strong proponent of all things new in recruiting, he truly believes it is all about fit!
Ryan K. Hew, is a local attorney that provides transactional and compliance services for small and medium-sized businesses. Some of the services include: entity formation, corporate governance, contract drafting and review, and licensing and registration with government agencies. When not working directly with clients, he provides informational resources on the benefits of LLCs and corporations, social media use, contract law, intellectual property protection, B2B relationships, and the legislative process through seminars and his blog. When not at his computer, he can be found dining out at the newest restaurant, watching a movie, or taking his dogs for a walk.
Laura is president of Kinoshita Communications LLC, an award-winning marketing, public relations and social media firm based in Hawaii that specializes in “getting to the ROI.” Last year, the agency’s average client saw 50% growth in new business leads. In 2012, Laura directed the online community engagement program for the Honolulu Police Department. She is a certified HubSpot Inbound Marketer and holds a bachelor’s degree in public relations. Since 2008 Kinoshita Communications has been providing technical marketing and data analysis for organizations in the government, healthcare, tourism and professional service sectors.
Sue has two decades of diverse sales, marketing and human resources experience. She has worked with high growth start-up firms to Global Fortune 500 companies, in a variety of industries including financial services and hospitality. In 2003, Sue founded Kunimune & Associates, a boutique, multicultural Executive Search firm, that using social media daily to communicate and attract candidates for her global clientele. Prior to owning her own search firm, Sue held leadership positions in talent acquisition, training, and executive search for Inkinen & Associates, Kahala Hilton and First Data Corporation. Individuals value her expertise as a job transition coach, Linkedin strategist and bilingual executive recruiter.
Deb is the VP at Bishop & Company. She manages the IT Recruitment Division and is also responsible for accounting and all management reporting. Debi has a Bachelors in Business Administration, a Masters in Information Systems and holds an active Professional Human Resources (PHR) certification.
Bernard K. Nunies is a seasoned Human Resources and Luxury Retail professional with over 20 years of international management experience. He attained his bachelor’s degree in Marketing from the University of Notre Dame, holds credentials as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), and has had the opportunity to live and work throughout Asia-Pacific. Bernard spent 15 years with international retailer, DFS Group, holding various senior management positions including General Manager (Okinawa, Japan), Area General Manager (Saipan & Palau) and Director of Human Resources (Hawaii). In 2010 he started his own consulting firm that assists small and medium size businesses with Human Resources and Business Management. His clients include Highway Inn, Hawaiian King Candies, and Lotte Duty Free
Kristen Robinson founded KR Design in 2010 to help experienced and determined business owners, real estate agents, and consultants grow their business with successful marketing techniques. Her customers quickly dictated their greatest marketing challenge: social media. Kristen’s background includes working with a range of companies including ESPN X Games, House of Blues, Radio Disney, and women’s professional football teams. Her experience gives her a unique perspective on social media.
Grant is a corporate recruiter at Bank of Hawaii by day and Hawaii food blogger with Nonstop Honolulu by night. A firm believer in leveraging technology for recruitment, Grant leverages his social media experience to identify, attract and retain professionals open to opportunities. Always on the move, you can find Grant at networking events and new restaurants around town.
Sunshine Topping is the Director of Recruitment at Hawaiian Airlines. She previously served as the Director of the State Department of Human Resource Development and prior to that worked as the Human Resource Director for Sandwich Isles Communications, and The Boeing Company. She serves on the Hawaii SHRM Board, the Hawaii Language Summit Board, the Hawaii Workforce Development Board and volunteers with Na Kama Kai, a nonprofit organization that provides free monthly ocean clinics for children.
Erica Wallace has been recruiting with Bank of Hawaii since November 2012. Originally from California, Erica graduated from University of California San Diego with a degree in Literature and in Communications. As a student, Erica got her first taste for recruiting while serving as a Recruitment Counselor for UCSD’s Pan-Hellenic Committee. She was a recruiter for staffing agency Staffing Solutions of Hawaii, where Erica focused on the Bank of Hawaii account and developing relationships in the Honolulu community. Erica is a regular volunteer with Bank of Hawaii’s many community outreach activities, an officer in the Bankoh Toastmasters group, and serves on several committees for Bank of Hawaii communication, including the Bank’s Social Media Committee.
Sylvia Dahlby is a sales consultant at SmartSearch applicant tracking system, and an early adopter of Internet technology. She has worked in the recruitment advertising & technology industry since 1978, and has tele-worked from home since 1990. Her resume includes work with leading recruitment advertising/marketing agencies such as Bernard Hodes Group, TMP Worldwide, and the visionary Computer Listings of Employment Opportunities, the very first job board launched in 1984, and Westech Career Expo in the Silicon Valley with its original Virtual Job Fair. She is a professional member of Social Media Club Hawaii Chapter and serves on the 2014 Board of Directors as Sponsorship Chair. She’s also an active member of the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) Hawaii Chapter as well as several online communities in recruiting, staffing and human resources. When she’s not working, Sylvia is interested in independent film, music, and astronomy.
Mary Despe is the founder and talent purveyor behind MK Despe Consulting LLC, a boutique recruitment firm specializing in software development, technical, sales and professional services placement globally. She is also a recruitment consultant to Vanty International, a UK-based global recruitment provider to Fortune 1000 companies. Based in Kaneohe, Mary considers herself an ‘eternal student’ of social media and enjoys learning about its ever- changing landscape and the multitude of ways to attract & engage talent through it. A novice triathlete and an amateur yogi, Mary has also written articles on career topics for Examiner.com since 2011. She has been involved with the programming committee for Social Media Club Hawaii’s HR bootcamp events since 2012.
Gwen Woltz is a mother, creative, and entrepreneur. She is a transplant to Hawaii over 12 years ago, and when she’s not spending her time with her daughter on the beach in Kaa‘awa, she is leading the charge at Wahine Media, a local social media agency. She is the current President of Social Media Club Hawaii, was a finalist for Pacific Edge Magazine’s Young Professional of the Year (2012), was voted one of Hawaii’s Top 15 Social Media Influencers in 2012, is a regular instructor of social media at Pacific New Media Outreach College at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
Verna Wong is the Director of Professional Development at Island Insurance. Her role includes workforce development, recruiting, and talent development. She has worked at the Shidler College of Business, as Director of Graduate Career Services. Verna has over 20 years in retail, including roles in talent acquisition, development, and operations. She holds a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Business Administration, majoring in Finance, from the University of Hawaii, Shidler College of Business.
