SMCHI End of Year Event -Wrap Up

Well, SMCHI officially said “Mahalo” to 2012 with a big bang!

With an average device/person ratio of 2:1, Hawaii’s social media and digital community came together last night to Tweet, Talk, Instagram, drink and eat. Then, Tweet about drinking and eating. About 70 people showed up last night to show us what “social” really means. Despite the “nose in device” symdrome, the noise level in the room was “dull roar” proving that geeks are people too.

We gave away some awesome prizes! We also had a great improv performance by Improv Hawaii, with their great interactive social media improv performance “FaceSpace.” The team of 4 had great energy; and allowed social geeks to laugh at themselves a little, OK, alot.

In the “Social Media Professionals Are People Too” category: we were victims of the Twitter/Instagram “Photo Wars” which happened that day! Lots of our Instagrams photos didn’t show up in the Storify because Twitter isn’t showing them as images. You’ll see the link though. Phew! Social media is constantly changing..so stay on your toes peeps! Lesson learned courtesy of SMCHI:  never get too attached to a single platform – you never know when a change will be announced that effects a promotion or program your doing.

A complete Storify from the evening can be found here.  By the way, according to TweetReach our #smchi hashtag reached over 255,000 Twitter accounts on December 5th on 220 unique tweets. Does SMCHI have reach or what?

We rarely do this in our blog posts, but so many people asked out membership last night that we’re compelled to add the link for membership here in our blog. SMCHI Membership is very affordable and we’re even looking for volunteers on our board in various committee for 2012, so its very easy to get involved. If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to email or tweet us!

And one last time, we really must thank our event sponsor. By sponsoring our event last night, we were able to keep the costs down and and still provide food and drink for our attendees!
