2016 Social Media Club of Hawaii Board of Directors

Meet the fearless leaders of this year’s Social Media Club Hawai!

President: Amanda Tompkins

Amanda Tompkins is a highly motivated, dependable, energetic professional experienced in social media, communications, marketing and public relations.  Tompkins is a social media rockstar and started her own social media company in 2014 called Activ808. She has over 5 years of experience in digital marketing in Honolulu and has a passion for helping companies connect to their audience and tell their story. She believes the best part about SMCHI is the relationships she’s made both professionally and personally. If she needs social media advice she automatically turns to her colleagues on the Board.

Vice President: Mae Russell Nishimura

Mae Russell

Mae Russell Nishimura has been a member of #SMCHI over three years. She is a graduate of Hawaiʻi Pacific University and lived in Vegas for 10 years where she received her Master of Arts in Organizational Management. According to Mae the best part about #SMCHI is meeting the wonderful and friendly members when attending all of the great events; where you can learn the latest and most up-to-date information about social media. Her goal for 2016 is to keep #SMCHI members informed and current with events, news and other information taking place with #SMCHI.

Communications Chair: Lara Holt

Lara Holt is a Social Media Specialist with Wahine Media. Lara works to support client objectives in enhancing their social media presence. Otherwise, she can be found biking, running, hiking, and adventuring around the island. She is a proud graduate of Hawaii  Pacific University, having attained her Master’s degree in Communications and an MBA.

Events Chair: Erica Wallace

Erica believes in good people and good stories—and loves social media for connecting good stories and good people all over the world. Erica recently earned her Masters in Human Resources Management from UH Manoa and works as Recruitment Manager for Robert Half. Erica hopes to make Social Media Club of Hawaii the best place for connecting people and helping businesses tell their story.

Membership Chair: Makamae Kahawai

Maka Kahawai is always up for trying something new and willing to taste or test anything once. With previous stints as a vocational education instructor and a marketing assistant, she now helps others strategize on how to make their mark in the world of social media and enjoys sharing her love for food and fun.

Sponsorship Chair: Grant Shindo

NonStop Honolulu Headshots

Chuggy Bear is a hungry foodie on the hunt for the best grinds in Hawaiʻi and around the world. Follow his exploits and relive his meals, which can include roasted pig’s heads and three Michelin star set menus. He believes the best part of SMCHI is the fact that everyone is bouncing ideas off of one another.

Technology Chair: Shiloh Swanson

We’d like to introduce Shiloh Swanson, our SMCHI tech guru, who’s been with us for 4 awesome years! He joined SMCHI to help us become a non-profit and to learn, grow and share relationships. Shiloh says the people he’s met through “social media” are amazing. He’s made life long relationships that have furthered him not just professionally but as a person. He says, “SMCHI has helped me grow in ways that I wouldn’t have been able to on my own.”

Outgoing Vice President: Shelley Simpson

Shelley likes to say she is a “woman of many talents.” As Director of Dangerous Ideas for Small & Mighty Marketing, Shelley’s talent for helping small businesses grow is applied by creating well done websites and solid social media marketing strategies.

As VP for SMCHI for the past two years, Shelley has helped produce innovative public and member events, as well as grow the board. Her goal for 2016 is making certain club members get more “perks” and Board Members get more opportunities to grow.

When she’s not in front of a computer, she’s hanging from a piece of fabric as an amateur aerial silk dancer, riding her bike in high heels or crating something with glitter.

Outgoing Treasurer: Kevin Zuber

We’re sad to see Kevin go, but the show must go on! Social Media Club Hawaii is looking for a new Treasurer Chair to serve for the 2016 year. If you’re interested or know someone that might be, please message our President, Amanda Tompkins. And yes, social media inquiries are accepted!

Look for upcoming announcements on the remaining 2016 SMCHI BOD members.
