And the winner is…
Over the past week 1,161 people voted for the Social Media Club of Hawaii’s non-profit partner. And the winner is…
Ma Ka Hana is a construction skills training program in Hana, Maui. The mission of Ma Ka Hana Ka ‘Ike (â€In Working, One Learnsâ€) is to provide at-risk youth with a way to learn that makes sense to them, that builds their self-esteem and shows them they have the power to change their own futures.
The Social Media Club of Hawaii will be working hand-in-hand with Ma Ka Hana Ka ‘Ike Building Program to incorporate the best social media practices into their business model. And what a better group to work with than one that necessitates the use of social media to connect to the club, as they are located in Maui?!
We invite all of the non-profits to participate in our monthly meetings where we will discuss a new social media tool, utilizing Ma Ka Hana as the example. From blogging, to twittering, to online reputation management, our group will cover the bases. Alex Conway will be the club/non-profit liaison, ensuring we keep their goals, objectives and key points at the cornerstone of all our initiatives.
(On a side note, if you’re an expert in any of these social media tools, feel free to fill out a speaker nomination form and present your knowledge at our club meetings: the second Friday of every month).
At our next meeting on June 12 we will be talking online reputation management. Stay tuned for the meeting agenda!
A big congratulations and mahalo to all our voters and non-profits – the initial exposure everyone received from the voting process is a true testament to the power of social media and we are excited to explore the depth and breadth of these tools moving forward!
For those of you curious about the numbers:
The winner, Ma Ka Hana Ka ‘Ike Building Program, earned over 40% of the total votes. The next four runners’ up were Hawaii Immigrant Justice Center, Hawaii Cat Foundation, The Bella Project, and The Safe Zone Foundation dba Girl Fest Hawaii.
