2015 Social Media Club of Hawaii Board of Directors
Social Media Club of Hawaii is proud to announce their 2015 Board of Directors. Along with a new president, Amanda Tompkins, there are many new faces breathing new life into SMCHI. With the new energy we re-organized the club positions and added a Vice-President, Shelley Simpson.
The focus of 2015 is on our members. We want to support them, promote them and help them grow. In the past few months we have reached out to our members about events they would like to see and what they would like to learn.
Our last event in February was hosted at Fresh Cafe downtown and was for members only. We asked attendees what they liked about SMCHI and what they wish there was more of. Overwhelmingly we got “more educational events and opportunities to network.”
Every year our new board gathers for our Annual Board Retreat. This year we had it at ProtoHub, on Saturday, Feb 21. We had 10 members IRL and 2 virtually via Google Hangouts. This year we presented the “Amanda and Shelley Show,” got to know each other, and had amazing brainstorming sessions.
2015 is going to be fantastic for SMCHI and our community, without further adieu I’ll like to introduce you to the 2015 Board of Directors…
President | Amanda Tompkins
Amanda Tompkins, Social Media Rockstar, started her own Digital Media company last year, Activ808. She has a passion for helping her clients find their story and connecting with their audience. Last year Amanda was the Community Chair on the Communications Committee of SMCHI and moved up to the Communications Chair when the position was open. Social Media is so much more than her passion, it’s her way of life. When she isn’t glued to some kind of Apple device you can find her at the beach, exploring the Honolulu Art Museum and volunteering.
Vice-President | Shelley Simpson
Shelley is the small & mighty creative force behind Small & Mighty Marketing, a digital & social media marketing agency specializing in small businesses. With a background full of branding, marketing and advertising, Shelley loves to work with “the little guy,” because while they’re busy serving their customers, Shelley is busy ensuring their customers get to them — with smart content, savvy marketing and engaging content.
Shelley joined SMCHI as the an Event Committee member in 2014 and quickly became the Event Chair. Particularly fond of giving people events that provide practical, useful tips, Shelley presented The 2 Cent Event, with the public bringing any social media concern to a selection of local social media influencers. The event was one of her SMCHI’s best of 2014.
This year, Shelley is ramping up her participation as Amanda’s right hand woman and heading up the Membership and Event Committees. Excited to be part of a group “getting stuff done,” Shelley is ready to give SMCHI Members (and the public) the stuff they need to be successful.
